Round Midnight

Round Midnight

Melbourne’s favourite jazz-singing cabaret diva invites you to journey ’round midnight with her.

Thurs 4 July – 8.15 pm
Studio Theatre
From $35

The ever-iconic Mama Alto is a jazz singer, cabaret artiste and gender transcendent diva. Her liquid velvet voice comes to the fore in beguiling interpretations of jazz standards and ballads. In Round Midnight, she turns already rich material inside out for heart-wrenching new interpretations.

Traversing smoky torch songs, sumptuous jazz ballads and luscious velvet vocals, this concert’s repertoire holds familiar melodies and unexpected morsels. With a soaring voice, exquisite sense of musicality and wondrously statuesque stage presence, Mama Alto continues establishing herself as one of Australia’s pre-eminent interpreters of torch singing.

Enigmatic, multifaceted and resplendent, her weaving of song and story, triumph and tragedy, poignancy and pathos make for an unforgettable musical experience.

Mama Alto is an exceptionally talented singer, who makes the question as to whether it is a woman or a man singing obsolete. It is clearly an angel. – The Conversation
