Let’s Hear it for the Ladies – Launceston

Let’s Hear it for the Ladies

What is it about the gays and musicals?

Wed 3 July – 7.30 pm
The Royal Oak Hotel, Launceston
From $29

The golden age of musicals. A time of soaring melodies, witty lyrics, stirring stories and leading ladies to die for. This stylish cabaret revels in the time when the musical was king, and it was ruled by many queens both on and off stage. Rod’s performance is a powerful evocation of this time and those larger-than-life broads who could always raise the roof and sometimes break your heart. Curtain up, light the lights, it’s showtime.

A laugh out loud show delivered with wit, musicality and a hugely generous performance – The Mercury, on Anderson’s ‘A Woman on the Edge’.

Rod Anderson

Rod began his professional career as a sixteen year old singer winning Channel Nine’s New Faces competition which led to regular appearances over several years on night-time television.

He toured Australia extensively in a cascade of musicals as well as serving as a long-time member of the Melbourne Theatre Company. The ABC’s filming of the Cherry Orchard was a highlight.

As the first resident director at the Victorian State Opera as well as the Melbourne Opera Company he directed “a slew of operas, from Baroque to Menotti”. He is also remembered from this time as Anton, the dastardly lawyer, in Channel 10’s Return to Eden series.

His first love will always be musicals and he won Actor of the Year for his portrayal of the title role in the revival of the musical Barnum at Melbourne’s National Theatre

He has toured shows to the Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringes, but he is most delighted to be singing up a storm for Festival of Voices in his adopted home, Lutruwita/Tasmania.
