Concordis Chamber Choir

Concordis is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in choral singing, with an emphasis on the high quality performance of an accessible and enjoyable range of choral music. Throughout its early journey Concordis enjoyed the guidance of its Founding Director Andrew Hunter and former Assistant Artistic Director/composer-in-residence Nicholas Buc.

Concordis is currently led by Music Director Philippa Jones. Philippa’s passion for choral music blended with a wealth of practised musical knowledge have allowed the choir to flourish in new and exciting ways. Philippa's exciting concert programs have been well-received and have successfully seen the choir sell-out performances, recording sessions and online workshops.

Concordis has had several exciting collaborations with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Together, Concordis and the MSO have performed Carmina Burana, the Doctor Who Spectacular, Pirates of the Caribbean and Symphony of Legends. To celebrate the 2019 Christmas season Concordis joined the MSO to perform the brilliant John Williams score of Home Alone.

More recently, the choir performed and filmed a curated program of music at the Mission to Seafarers Dome in the Docklands. Other highlights include performances at the Old Melbourne Gaol, Abbotsford Convent, and St Pauls Chapter House; as well as MONA, Government House Tasmania, and the Port Arthur Historic Site as part of Festival of Voices 2022.

Concordis is thrilled to be returning to the Festival of Voices 2024, bringing their diverse repertoire of choral music and signature sound to Tasmanian audiences.

The Velvetones

“Well-polished with class and attitude, The Velvetones evoke a bygone era where harmony was the norm and we were all better for it” - Naomi Crellin, The Idea of North

Inspired by legendary vocal ensembles such as Manhattan Transfer, The Andrews Sisters and The Chordettes, celebrated vocal ensemble The Velvetones perform everything from heart stirring jazz ballads to cheeky Broadway ditties. Their performances are delivered with beauty, sensitivity, humour, and just enough bawdiness to make them a uniquely memorable act.

Formed in 2018, The Velvetones quickly established themselves as one of the county’s leading vocal acts after being crowned champions National A Cappella Championships that same year. They received special awards for Audience Favourite, Best Jazz Song, Best Comedy Song and Best Soloist.

They have since performed at the Melbourne International Singers Festival, Hobart’s Festival of Voices, Adelaide Fringe Festival, the Barbershop Harmony Australia Festival, Voices in Paradise (QLD) and have enjoyed many guest appearances with other artists and collaborators. They are also passionate and experienced workshop leaders, sought after for their fun and inclusive workshops.

The Velvetones launched their much anticipated debut album in 2022 to a packed house.
