A Choral Soirée:  Among the Branches

An exquisite performance hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania

The Governor of Tasmania once again opens up the stunning Government House Ballroom to host the annual Choral Soirée.  German vocal ensemble Sjaella will feature in this special event in truly beautiful surroundings with world class acoustics.

In this curated program titled “Among the Branches”, Sjaella explores the many facets of natural phenomena and mythological stories by uniting early and contemporary music with folk tunes from northern Europe. The contrasting tonal language invites the listener to interpret sounds of nature such as the bird’s twittering or the singing of the ice – in connection with their place of belonging.

This program will include compositions by Henry Purcell, Clément Janequin, Caroline Shaw, Alice Chance, Laura Jēkabsone, among others.

Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the concert, provided courtesy of the Office of the Governor.

After our debut tour in Australia in July 2023, one thing was certain: we were captivated by the continent and its incredible people on the other side of the world, and we couldn’t wait to return.

    Our pricing model

As a non-profit, we prioritise bringing singing and music to our communities, not maximising income. We work to make our ticket prices as affordable as possible, and we’ve shifted to an early bird pricing model instead of concession pricing. This change focuses on equity, allowing everyone to secure tickets at a reduced price and helping us keep the festival accessible to as many people as possible.

Each event will have a set number of tickets available at the early bird price. Once these are sold, standard prices will apply.
