This non-competitive, joy-filled experience offers youth choirs from across the country the opportunity to participate in Australia’s pre-eminent choral festival. Choirs get to sing in a welcoming, inclusive environment to appreciative audiences, meet and sing with like-minded young people and attend special Festival events. The opportunity to explore Hobart and Tasmania is also encouraged!

Youth Choir Package FAQs
Do we need to apply and go through a selection process?
- No. Contact our Youth Choir coordinator, Kerry Bennett, to discuss your festival attendance.
Do we need to come for the whole festival?
- No. You are welcome to come for as long or as little as suits your choir. Most youth choirs come for four to five days.
How many performances would we do?
- You can request that your festival schedule be as busy or as relaxed as you’d like. We will work with you to create a performance schedule that suits your group’s needs.
Are there massed choir events for youth choir participants?
- Yes. Your choir can participate in a combined youth choir workshop culminating in a massed choir performance at one of two performance opportunities. In addition, several Tasmanian schools and youth choirs enjoy collaborating with visiting youth choirs for non-performance-based singing collaborations throughout the festival.
Can my choir view other concerts?
- Yes. Throughout the festival, we have over 100 pop-up performances around Hobart (and statewide!) from a range of choirs, and attendance at one or more of these performances can be included in your schedule. Where possible, we can arrange for participating youth choirs to sit in on rehearsals or performances of our major choral concerts.
Are there warm-up spaces or green rooms in performance venues?
- In some cases. Major concert venues usually include a (sometimes small) warm-up area. Many of the pop-up venues are public spaces, so we suggest you warm up before arriving or find a space nearby, i.e., a park or similar!
Is there a piano or keyboard available at performance venues?
- In most venues, yes – subject to availability! When you confirm your attendance with Kerry, let us know what equipment you would like supplied.
Will we have time for some sightseeing?
- Yes. When discussing your schedule with Kerry, mention that you would like to add some sightseeing time to your schedule to explore beautiful Tasmania. We have arrangements with some tourist destinations that allow participating groups to take advantage of reduced or waived entry fees.
Will we need to organise transport?
- Only in some cases. Most of the festival activities are within walking distance of central Hobart. You won’t need to hire a bus unless you wish to visit tourist destinations outside the city area.
Testimonials

“Every singer from Vivace mentioned a moment from our Tasmanian tour … special memories to cherish from our time with you at the Festival of Voices. We feel as if we have made some true arts friends in Hobart.”

All community youth choirs, and school choirs are welcome to attend. While there are no age limits, we suggest participation is best suited to choristers who are 10 years or older.
