2025 “Be a Velvetone For a Day” Workshop
Workshop and performance with the fabulous Velvetones!
Sat 5 July – 10.30 am
Hobart Town Hall
Performance:
Sun 6 July at Hobart City Hall
From $180
Have you ever wondered what it might be like to sing in four-part harmony and be a part of a fun and vibrant a cappella group?
Wonder no longer! Come and join the versatile and vivacious members of The Velvetones for an entertaining and inclusive workshop you won’t forget!
You’ll come together as one big Velvetone family as Claire, Steph, Leonie and Stephanie take you on a ride of learning songs from scratch through to performance, with a focus on musical development, enjoyment, presentation, tools for performance and of course, some of the famous Velvetones sass!
The day will be a true Velvetones experience – right down to enjoying tea and chocolate with the group at break time.
There are no barriers to joining in – everyone will take something away from this workshop, regardless of your musical background. Those who are up for a challenge will have their needs met, alongside those who have limited or no group singing experience. All voice types are most welcome!
To add to the Velvetones experience, you’ll all sing together and share a fun performance at a special Festival 20th anniversary event on Sunday 6 July.
What's included?
The workshop fee will cover the cost of music licencing, tuition from members of The Velvetones, tea and coffee (and chocolate!), your lanyard with Festival benefits, specially negotiated accommodation rates and plenty of laughs!
Who should register?
This workshop is open to everyone, regardless of your singing experience, music reading ability or voice type. Come and join The Velvetones family!
“Well-polished with class and attitude, The Velvetones evoke a bygone era where harmony was the norm and we were all better for it” - Naomi Crellin, The Idea of North
Inspired by legendary vocal ensembles such as Manhattan Transfer, The Andrews Sisters and The Chordettes, celebrated vocal ensemble The Velvetones perform everything from heart-stirring jazz ballads to cheeky Broadway ditties. Their performances are delivered with beauty, sensitivity, humour, and just enough bawdiness to make them a uniquely memorable act.
Formed in 2018, The Velvetones quickly established themselves as one of the country’s leading vocal acts after being crowned champions at the National A Cappella Championships that year. They received special awards for Audience Favourite, Best Jazz Song, Best Comedy Song and Best Soloist.
They have since performed at the Melbourne International Singers Festival, Hobart’s Festival of Voices, Adelaide Fringe Festival, the Barbershop Harmony Australia Festival, Queensland’s Voices in Paradise and have enjoyed many guest appearances with other artists and collaborators. They are also passionate and experienced workshop leaders, sought after for their fun and inclusive sessions.
The Velvetones launched their much-anticipated debut album in 2022 to a packed house.
