Festival of Voices

    Touring Choir Package

An opportunity to visit Tasmania in 2025 and unite in song

Is your choir or vocal ensemble interested in visiting Tasmania as part of Festival of Voices’ Touring Choir Package in 2025?

This non-competitive, joy-filled experience invites choirs from across the country to join Australia’s pre-eminent choral festival. Sing in a welcoming, inclusive environment, perform in unique settings, and attend special festival events. You’ll also have the chance to explore Hobart and Tasmania, while meeting and networking with fellow choral friends and colleagues.

Our 2025 Touring Choir Package offers choir members the opportunity to sing at some of Tasmania’s most renowned locations. From art galleries to historic sites, this package is the ultimate way to discover Tasmania and sing for various audiences!

    What's included?

In 2025 the Touring Choir Package includes the following experiences:

    Pop-up Program

Surprise and delight audiences in unique locations across Hobart and the state. Choirs are invited to perform to guests and passers-by in a creatively curated program.

    The Singers’ Lounge

Often described as the heart and soul of Festival of Voices, we think it’s our best kept secret!  Friends – old and new – revel in the glory of scheduled and impromptu performances (sometimes until the wee hours). Audiences are treated to spontaneous song by some of our big-name performers who in turn have been known to encourage anxious altos and timid tenors to overcome any performing fears to bask in the safe and welcoming arms of our audience. It’s always bustling – the ultimate singers love-in!   As well as performing with your choir, the Touring Choir Package grants you unlimited free entry to the Singers’ Lounge (subject to capacity).

    Salamanca Super Sing

Join in the fun of a public flash mob at the bustling Salamanca Market. Surprise and entertain hundreds of marketgoers in this memorable performance experience. A short workshop to prepare will be held prior to the flash mob performance.

    Massed choir performance

We are excited to provide the opportunity once again to Touring Choir members to sing in a massed choir as part of our finale concert. Paul Jarman will lead a massed choir performance to open this special concert. A rehearsal for this performance will be held in the Salamanca Arts Centre, and a final run-through on the day, in the City Hall.

    Testimonials

When I initially shared with the singers the plan to participate in Festival of Voices 2024, I was hoping to get between 20-30 singers signing up so we have a big and strong enough group to perform. Little did I know so many would not only come to Hobart but make it an experience of a lifetime. To say we had a blast is a complete understatement, the positive feedback about everything Festival of Voices, Hobart and Tasmania is still echoing in all the chat groups and rehearsal rooms. There’s an ongoing joke, which sounds a bit like threat in my opinion, that next time there will be 300 of us. Thank you for accommodating our overspilling excitement and making the Festival the most exceptional music experience for all of us.

    Touring Choir Package FAQs

Do we need to apply and go through a selection process?

    • No. You can let Kerry know when you will be here. Only use the artist application form if you are proposing a performance idea or show that would be ticketed and that you would request to be paid a fee for presenting.

Do we need to come for the whole festival?

    • No. You are welcome, but many choirs come for four to five days.

How many performances would we do?

    • You can request to do as many or as few Pop-up performances as you like. You can indicate your preference in the choir group registration form (only one to be completed by a choir representative for each choir group). We will work with you to create a performance schedule that suits your group’s needs and availability.

What will be the length of our performances?

    • Pop-up performances are 15 to 30 minutes in length. Singers’ Lounge spots are 10 minutes.

Are there massed choir events that participating groups can choose to be part of?

    • Yes. These are listed on the Touring Choir Package page.

Does my whole choir have to register for a workshop?

    • No. We can easily schedule your Pop-up performances around any workshop sessions your singers are needed for.

If I register for a workshop, do I also have to pay the Touring Choir Package fee?

    • No. If you pay for a major workshop, then your Touring Choir Package is included in the workshop fee.

Are there warm-up spaces or green rooms at Pop-up venues?

    • Generally no. Many venues are public spaces that we get to use for free. We suggest that you warm up before arriving or find a space nearby, i.e., a park or something similar!

Is there a keyboard available or a PA/speaker for backing tracks?

    • Yes – subject to availability! Have your choir representative let us know what equipment you want supplied in the choir group registration form.

    Individual chorister registration process

Are you already enrolled in a major workshop (i.e. the Classical Choral, Music Theatre Choir, Chamber Choir, Songwriting or the “Be a Velvetone For a Day” workshop)? If you answered YES, do not register again – your Touring Choir Package is included in your workshop fee! Additionally, conductors and accompanists do not need to pay the touring choir registration fee.

Otherwise, click on the ‘Purchase – individual choristers’ button to register and pay for your individual choir package. Individual registrations are open until 13 June 2025.

You will receive a confirmation email after checkout. You need to complete the singers’ details form for all singers included in your transaction.

Please also ensure that your musical director, choir leader, or representative completes the Touring Choir Registration (via the ‘Choir group registration’ button) form for the group before 30 April 2025.

Choir registration process - for choir leaders

All choirs that want to participate in the Festival need to complete a choir group registration form. This form should be submitted once per choir, by the musical director, choir leader, or another representative.

Based on the information provided, we will work with you to create a schedule for your choir that accommodates any workshops, rehearsals, and performances.

Choir group submissions are due by 30 April 2025.

Please contact our Touring Choir co-ordinator for any enquiries at [email protected].

    Who should register?

All choirs and vocal ensembles of any experience-level and genre are welcome to participate.
