Festival of Voices

    Classical Choral Workshop: Verdi’s Requiem

WAITLIST AVAILABLE: Join internationally acclaimed conductor David Lawrence (UK) as he makes his 6th appearance at Festival of Voices to conduct Verdi’s powerful Requiem.

Verdi’s Requiem is one of the most dramatic and operatic compositions of its kind, renowned as one of the most enthralling settings of the Catholic funeral mass. Although a mass for the dead, its emotional impact and dramatic intensity rival any night at the opera.

Join us at the 2025 Classical Choral Workshop: Verdi’s Requiem for the chance to sing this masterwork alongside choristers from across Australia and beyond, under the direction of the versatile and sought-after David Lawrence.

Participants will have the best experience in this workshop if they are well-versed and comfortable with the prepared score that will be provided upon registration. Due to the size and complexity of this work, the rehearsal sessions will focus on balancing singing parts and preparing for the performance.

In 2025, you can select from two rehearsal schedules:

    • Rehearsal group 1: For those who can attend rehearsals on Tuesday evenings in June before the Festival period.
    • Rehearsal group 2: For those who can attend rehearsals all scheduled within the Festival period

Please note that there will be two combined group rehearsals, with the orchestra, after hours on the days before the performance. Refer to the attached schedule below to see which option best fits your availability. Both rehearsal options have a similar number of contact hours.

To assist us in managing two rehearsal schedules and multiple singing parts to achieve a balanced choir, you can register for group 2 via the ‘register here for rehearsal group 2’ button at the top of this web page. Alternatively, due to limited capacity, if you’d prefer to rehearse as part of rehearsal group 1, you can express your interest via the ‘express your interest for group 1’ button or here

You’ll receive a hard copy of the score for the performance, prepared by David Lawrence, at the start of the 2025 Festival. If you require this ahead of time, please liaise with [email protected]

This workshop is presented in partnership with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Chorus.

All places in this workshop have now been filled. Please email [email protected] with your voice part, group preference and phone number if you wish to be added to the waitlist in case more places become available. You may also be interested in the Chamber Choir Workshop, or any of our other workshops.

    Our pricing model

As a non-profit, we prioritise bringing singing and music to our communities, not maximising income. We work to make our ticket prices as affordable as possible, and we’ve shifted to an early bird pricing model instead of concession pricing. This change focuses on equity, allowing everyone to secure tickets at a reduced price and helping us keep the festival accessible to as many people as possible.

Each event will have a set number of tickets available at the early bird price. Once these are sold, standard prices will apply. This ensures we can cover event costs while keeping the festival sustainable and maintaining affordable options for our audiences.
