The Governor of Tasmania once again opens up the stunning Government House Ballroom to host the annual Choral Soirée. It is a special event in truly special surroundings with world-class acoustics. 

Comprised of six professional singers, Luminescence Chamber Singers is a virtuosic vocal ensemble based on Ngunnawal and Ngambri country [Canberra, Australia]. Performing rarely heard gems of the Renaissance to new Australian art music and Nordic pop, Luminescence has rapidly emerged as one of Australia’s leading ensembles. 

Sharing the stage will be the acclaimed children’s choir Brisbane Birralee Voices.  Through the perspective of young voices, the choir will present a dramatic interpretation of Australian compositions that reflect our landscape. 

Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the concert, provided courtesy of the Office of the Governor.

Patrons are advised bookings will close at COB on Monday, 24 June.

Booking fee

  • For bookings with a total value of $15 or less, a booking fee of $3 will be added upon check-out.
  • For bookings with a total value between $15.01 and $199.99, a booking fee of $5 will be added upon
    check-out.
  • For bookings with a total value of $200 or more, a booking fee of $10 will be added upon check-out.

Getting to the venue:
  • Government House is located at 7 Lower Domain Road at Queens Domain.

  • Vehicles are able to enter the grounds via the main gates.

  • Ramp access for wheelchair users can be provided upon request.

Luminescence Chamber Singers

Comprised of six professional singers, Luminescence Chamber Singers is a virtuosic vocal ensemble based on Ngunnawal and Ngambri country [Canberra, Australia]. Performing music that spans Medieval chant and Renaissance polyphony as well as folk song, pop, and contemporary art music, Luminescence has rapidly emerged as one of Australia’s leading ensembles.

Recent performance highlights have included appearances at the Sydney Opera House (2023), major collaborations with the National Museum of Australia (2022) and the National Gallery of Australia (2023), and Four Winds Festival (2019, 2020, 2022). Since 2017, Luminescence has appeared annually at the Canberra International Music Festival, performing in more than 16 festival programs including the collaborations with many of Australia’s leading musicians, including Ensemble Offspring, Bach Akadamie Australia, . Luminescence presents an annual concert program in Canberra, Sydney and surrounding regions as well as appearing for a range of festivals, collaborations, and special events.Luminescence also delivers a range of educational activities, including workshops, young artist programs, masterclasses, holiday programs, including an acclaimed program for young performers: the Luminescence Children's Choir.

Luminescence works closely with conductor Roland Peelman AM, who joins the ensemble as director and artistic mentor for the ensemble.

Brisbane Birralee Voices

Brisbane Birralee Voices (BBV) is a choir for young people aged 12 - 18 who have a love for singing with others and a desire to create choral music of a high standard across a variety of styles. BBV, the signature children's choir of the leading choral organisation, Voices of Birralee, is acknowledged on home shores and abroad as one of Australia's finest children's choirs.

The program encourages young singers to develop their vocal technique and attain musical excellence. In addition to the excitement of achieving high artistic goals and the personal enrichment experienced by each member, there is an emphasis placed on the benefits of sharing their gift of music with others and the intrinsic value of music within society.

BBV enjoy performing at Voices of Birralee produced concerts and events, as well as in collaboration with professional arts organisations such as the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Ballet and for community and various charity events. They are also featured as the children’s choir at Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s annual production of Spirit of Christmas.
