Festival of Voices

    Chamber Choir Workshop

Work with USA’s Christopher Kiver in an intimate, curated workshop!

Festival of Voices is delighted to welcome Christopher Kiver (USA) to lead our second ever Chamber Choir Workshop!  Designed for the capable, experienced singer, participants will explore ensemble singing in a blended and balanced niche choir.  Chris will mould a wonderfully cohesive ensemble and present a professional level Chamber Choir at a special Festival opening concert, celebrating our 20th anniversary.

Workshop participants will be selected by audition only. Singers are invited to submit an application form and audition video without delay as places in each voice part are limited to ensure ensemble balance.

The Chamber Choir repertoire has been carefully chosen by Chris and will include a broad range of musical genres, styles and eras.

This workshop is proudly presented in collaboration with the Australian National Choral Association.

    What’s included?

The workshop fee will cover the cost of your music, tuition,
    tea and coffee,
your lanyard with Festival benefits, opportunities to network with like-minded choristers and specially negotiated accommodation rates.

    Who should register?

Singers will need a proficient level of music reading and considerable choral experience.  Those with limited choral singing are encouraged to register for the Music Theatre Choir Workshop or Be A Velvetone For a Day

Participants are expected to familiarise themselves with the selected repertoire prior to the Festival and come to the first workshop session with notes learnt but not memorised.

Please note that learning tracks will not be provided for Chamber Choir Workshop participants.

    How to apply?

Click the ‘Apply now’ button at the top right of this web page or here and follow the prompts. You will be required to upload a short video of yourself singing a verse or excerpt of any song/work of your choice, unaccompanied.  Your video should be between 30 seconds and two minutes in length and it will be beneficial if your audition video also gives an indication of your voice range. We are happy to accept a video taken on your smartphone or mobile device.

Christopher will personally review all submissions and base his selections on tone quality, range and balance of parts. All applicants will be notified in a timely manner by email, and those who have been selected will be asked to confirm their registration within seven days of the email being sent. Any unfilled places will then be offered to another successful applicant.

Please note that places are strictly limited for this workshop.  As each voice part becomes full, additional auditionees will be placed on a waiting list.

Upon confirmation of registration, workshop participants will receive the selected repertoire.  To enhance the experience for all, participants will be expected to have their voice part note-known prior to the commencement of the workshop.  Memorisation of music is not required.

    Our pricing model

As a non-profit, we prioritise bringing singing and music to our communities, not maximising income. We work to make our ticket prices as affordable as possible, and we’ve shifted to an early bird pricing model instead of concession pricing. This change focuses on equity, allowing everyone to secure tickets at a reduced price and helping us keep the festival accessible to as many people as possible.

Each event will have a set number of tickets available at the early bird price. Once these are sold, standard prices will apply. This ensures we can cover event costs while keeping the festival sustainable and maintaining affordable options for our audiences.
