    Young Tasmania Sings Registrations

Bringing young singers together in a co-operative, non-competitive performance environment

Celebrating its 15th year, the beloved Young Tasmania Sings event will be held in Hobart over two nights in the last week of Term 2. School and community youth choirs are invited to register to join the combined choirs to sing in a massed choir of approximately 250 singers.

Young Tasmania Sings rehearsals and performances will take place in the beautiful Federation Concert Hall. Those in the combined choirs will sing six songs under the direction of special guest conductor Lachlan Massey (NSW). The experience for young singers will include a collaboration with the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra, and the opportunity to hear some wonderful guest youth choirs from Tasmania and beyond.

Participation in Young Tasmania Sings requires preparation of the music in advance and attendance at two rehearsal days immediately leading up to the performance. Participating choirs will sing at one of the two Young Tasmania Sings concert evenings.

Members of the combined choirs should be in years 5 to 8, with unchanged voices.

Participating choirs will receive copies of the selected repertoire, along with audio files to help learn the songs. Music will be distributed upon confirmation of registration, and rehearsal tracks will be available at the start of the 2026 school year.

Hugely looking forward to coming to Festival of Voices in 2026! I’ve visited Young Tasmania Sings on a couple of previous occasions and have always come away uplifted and inspired. I can’t wait to create music with so many talented young singers, and work with the astonishingly good Tasmanian Youth Orchestra. Better start counting down the days!

Why participate in Young Tasmania Sings?

    Young Tasmania Sings:

    • Brings youth choirs together in a co-operative, non-competitive environment, including choirs from all school systems and community youth choirs.
    • Provides an opportunity for singers from grades 5 to 8 to work together with a visiting expert director and share the outcomes with family, friends and the wider community.
    • Creates the opportunity for young singers to perform with a full orchestra as an integral part of the program.  We welcome our partners from the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra to work alongside participating choristers.
    • Demonstrates pathways for young singers through the inclusion of choral items by visiting guest choirs from Hobart, mainland Australia and the world.
    • Is a rewarding, satisfying and memorable music experience for young singers.

    Testimonials

The Tasmania Sings concert has become an annual highlight for my choir since they first participated in 2018. Preparing them for this has been made easy with the learning tracks provided and the choice of music has always been great. The joy on the faces of my students when they’re rehearsing and performing, serves as a strong reminder of why I love doing what I do.
    – Peter Eddleston, Music Teacher and Choir Director, Albuera Street & South Hobart Primary Schools

The Young Tasmania Sings concert gives young choristers a memorable and inspiring experience of working with a leading conductor on choral repertoire that is both educational and engaging. They have so much fun singing with masses of other young singers in a public concert and with Tasmanian Youth Orchestra, and in the process are receiving a huge boost to their aesthetic, social and emotional development. It is especially beneficial for the choristers in small regional choirs such as ours to have access to this experience, which would not be available in our area.
    – Dominique Baker, Conductor, Crescendo Music Hub, Devonport

Young Tasmania Sings was a great experience. I’m glad I did it because I was full of joy and happiness and my parents were proud that I took the opportunity.

Singing at the Festival of Voices was an incredible experience. It was amazing to come together with students from different schools and backgrounds, all sharing a common love for music. The experience was not only musically enriching but also incredibly heartwarming. Singing alongside others created a powerful sense of community and belonging that I’ll always treasure.
    – Ashritha – participant, Mt Carmel College

Young Tasmania Sings was an incredible experience, since many people from different backgrounds got together to make incredible music. I enjoyed the two days of rehearsal immensely and strongly believe that it helped to improve my singing ability, along with social connections.
