    Songwriting Workshop

Experience the magic of songwriting with one of Australia’s leading choral composers!

Delve into the art of songwriting with your mentor, nationally respected composer and musical storyteller Paul Jarman. In this intimate workshop, you’ll explore the joy of crafting stories and songs while connecting with new creative friends.

This workshop will include an open and practical conversation about how songs come to life – from melody and inspiration to mindset and storytelling with integrity.  Those who have not attended this workshop in previous years are encouraged to join an optional introductory session, where Paul will introduce key elements in the songwriters’ toolbox, including compositional structure, melodic nuances, and approaches to creative thinking.

With a refreshed format in 2026, everyone who has an idea to share will be the catalyst for the creative journey. Paul will work with participants in a collaborative and supportive environment, crafting music that draws from personal experiences and stories. If you’re interested in learning more about writing your own songs, you’re encouraged to attend, whether you’re a seasoned musician or have never written a song before.

Previous attendees have described the experience as uniquely special, one that has stayed with them long after the weekend is over, thanks to the skills gained and the friendships formed along the way.

The preliminary meet-and-greet session offers a relaxed opportunity to connect with Paul and your fellow songwriters before the workshop begins.  Participants are welcome to bring instruments with them.

Places are strictly limited to 20 participants, so book early to avoid disappointment!

    Testimonials

“2025 was my second time doing the songwriting workshop because I loved it so much the first time. It’s a great space to meet other songwriters—both new and experienced—and share ideas, techniques, and inspiration in a really welcoming, like-minded community. I even made a new friend, and we started writing a song together on the very first day!”

    – Jack, Hobart

Songwriting was an area of music I was unfamiliar with. In the days leading up to the songwriting workshop I felt unsure about the workshop. However, the second I walked in the door, it was obvious how welcoming Paul and all the other songwriters were. This workshop is for everyone, no matter your background.”

    – Campbell, Hobart

    Our pricing model

As a non-profit, we prioritise bringing singing and music to our communities, not maximising income. We work to make our ticket prices as affordable as possible, and we’ve shifted to an early bird pricing model instead of concession pricing. This change focuses on equity, allowing everyone to secure tickets at a reduced price and helping us keep the festival accessible to as many people as possible.

Each event will have a set number of tickets available at the early bird price. Once these are sold, standard prices will apply. This ensures we can cover event costs while keeping the festival sustainable and maintaining affordable options for our audiences.
