    Deborah Cheetham Fraillon Masterclass

    A hands-on insight into vocal technique and interpretation

    This vocal masterclass with acclaimed composer and soprano Prof. Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AO, offers singers a rare opportunity to work closely with one of Australia’s most respected musical voices.  

    Four to five singers will be selected in advance to perform and receive detailed, practical guidance on vocal technique, musical interpretation and artistic communication during the masterclass. Participating singers will be chosen via audition, submitting two contrasting pieces, one of which must be by an Australian composer. Audition details, including upload instructions, are available via the link below. 

    Observers are warmly encouraged to attend, gaining valuable insight by watching the coaching process and learning from Prof. Cheetham Fraillon’s thoughtful, generous approach to developing expressive, confident performers.

    What's included in registration?

    Auditions are to be submitted online by the due date, via the upload link. Please upload two contrasting pieces, one of which must be by an Australian composer. Sheet music for both pieces should also be uploaded at the time of submission.  A professional accompanist will be provided on the day. 

    Submissions should be high-quality video (MP4/MOV) and audio (MP3/WAV), including a brief intro (name, state and performance order). Ensure you have good lighting/sound and that most of your body is in shot. 

    Prof. Cheetham Fraillon will personally review all submissions.   

    All applicants will be notified of the outcome by email, and those who have been selected will be asked to confirm their registration within seven days of the email being sent. Any unfilled places will then be offered to another successful applicant.

    Who should register?

    The vocal masterclass is intended for emerging and established vocalists seeking to refine their technique, musical interpretation, and artistic expression. Observers are also encouraged to register, as the masterclass offers valuable insight into professional rehearsal processes, vocal pedagogy, and artistic decision-making. Observing participants will gain a deeper understanding of performance practice, culturally informed approaches to vocal artistry, and the opportunity to learn through listening, reflection, and discussion.

    Please note: Festival of Voices does not provide supervision of children 15 years and younger. All children requiring supervision must be accompanied by a supervising adult at all times and may be refused admission or attendance if not accompanied by an adult who is also registered for this workshop.

    • For bookings with a total value of $30 or less, a booking fee of $4 will be added upon checkout.
    • For bookings with a total value between $30.01 and $199.99, a booking fee of $6 will be added upon checkout.
    • For bookings with a total value of $200 or more, a booking fee of $11 will be added upon checkout.

    FEAT. Live Solar Slice $1 per transaction

    Festival of Voices is proudly partnering with climate impact organisation FEAT. Live! $1 will be donated from every booking fee to the ‘Solar Slice’ initiative.

    This contribution will support an indigenous-led biodiversity restoration program on Lungtalanana Island, Tasmania, aiming to restore habitat for the Bass Strait Wombat and the Long-Nosed Potoroo and reintroduce these species to the island.
