The Mudlarks
Women’s Choir (NSW)
The Mudlarks are a women’s a cappella choir directed by Kaori Shimmyo. They are based in the NSW Blue Mountains west of Sydney and rehearse weekly. The group has been singing together since the early 1990s and a few of those first singers are still with the choir today, alongside others who joined just this year.
It has been ten years since the Mudlarks last sang at the Festival of Voices under the directorship of Alison Jones who, like Kaori, stepped up from within the choir’s ranks. The Mudlarks are delighted to be performing again with a repertoire of pop, folk and classical songs from around the world.
In the early 90s, purple was the colour of eccentricity and rebellion, and the Mudlarks still wear it proudly today!
