Southern Sky
Mixed voice choir (TAS)
Southern Sky is a small ensemble that mainly sings a cappella music. The group formed i late 2021when some friends in the Coal River Valley began singing together in their homes. The choir grew and presented its first concert to a full house in the Richmond Hall in April of 2022. The choir has gone on to perform at several community events including the Richmond Bi-Centenary Celebrations, Festival of Voices and the Hobart Eisteddfod.
Southern Sky has also been asked to augment other choirs for special occasions. A project for 2026 is to join Allegri Ensemble in a March performance of Bach’s St Matthew’s Passion.
Since the sad passing of their conductor in 2025, one of Southern Sky’s sopranos has stelled into the role of conductor. They are grateful to Anne Blythe-Cooper for keeping the group singing and performing.
Southern Sky is SATB and has explored a variety of music from madrigals to jazz standards and contemporary works. The group is versatile with experienced choral singers and always enjoy new challenges.
