Kompactus
Chamber Choir (ACT)
Kompactus is a chamber choir, aimed at developing the skills of talented singers between the ages of eighteen and thirty. Founded in 2008 with countertenor David Yardley as director, the group now performs regularly in Canberra, under the artistic direction of composer and choral conductor, Olivia Swift. Kompactus maintains a diverse and versatile repertoire, drawn from many time periods and styles stretching as far back as the late medieval through to modern contemporary music.
Kompactus presented its first concert at St. Paul’s, Manuka, in 2009. Since then, the group has frequently collaborated with other musicians and arts organisations such as The Australian Voices, the Oriana Chorale, E Stuudio Youth Choir (Estonia), the Canberra International Music Festival and artists such as Roland Peelman, David Yardley and Chris Latham.
Notably, Kompactus has worked with many composers on new works, such as Ella Macens, Sally Whitwell, Zoey Haar, Patrick Baker and their very own director Olivia Swift. Performing in and around Canberra, Kompactus has performed at Floriade, the High Court of Australia, the National Gallery of Australia, Albert Hall, and Llewellyn Hall, among others.
