Jabra Latham
Composer (TAS)
Jabra Latham is genuinely thrilled to be part of Rumpel, tasked with realising the music for the creative team’s vision. He has worked with Amanda Hodder for many years as both a composer and performer. Their longstanding collaboration is built on skill, musicianship, enthusiasm, a shared capacity for nutting through complex ideas, deep respect for a wide range of musical styles, and a strong sense of humour. Amanda is a killer visionary and pianist, with accompaniment and vocal coaching skills that leave her associate artists wanting for nothing.
He describes Nicholas Tolputt as a stunner of a vocalist and a wonderful human, a dream for any composer to work with. Nick’s musical and technical abilities are remarkable, supported by a synergy of intelligent, informed thought and artistic instinct. His rare combination of brilliance and humility makes the process of developing new music together deeply rewarding. Building something like Rumpel from the ground up requires a reciprocal, safe, adventurous, flexible and hardworking team, and Nick’s openness makes experimentation, particularly with vocal ideas, both possible and exciting.
Rumpel explores important and profound themes while contributing new repertoire to contemporary art music. Jabra attests to the vision, commitment and significant work that Amanda and Nick have already invested in bringing this project to life.
Alongside his work on Rumpel, Jabra composes and performs across contemporary classical and cross-disciplinary projects. His music is performed and streamed around the world, and he is regularly commissioned by outstanding ensembles, soloists, orchestras, organisations and music supporters. His involvement in this production reflects his ongoing dedication to creating new Australian music and collaborating with artists who share his drive for thoughtful, ambitious and imaginative work.
