Daniel J Townsend is an award-winning educator, songwriter, poet, storyteller and creative facilitator based in Lutruwita/Tasmania. He is best known as the creator of Midland Highway: The Musical and for his beloved anthem to grief and renewal, Soon I Will Sing You a Song.

Written in the dark depths of human experience, Soon I Will Sing You a Song speaks to the universal moments that shape us — a friend’s betrayal, the loss of someone dear, or the sudden shocks life throws our way. Daniel believes in the transformative power of music: that a melody and lyric can help us walk through the valley of the shadow with something steady to hold on to.

Daniel says, “When I wrote Soon I Will Sing You a Song, I was not intending to share it. It was a song just for me, something I needed to hear.

“Back then, I could hardly contemplate stepping outside, let alone stepping on a stage. But we keep on keeping on, don’t we? I wrote it, recorded it and shared it with the world. I could not have imagined a room full of people singing it back to me in harmony. I am humbled and honoured, grateful to be a voice in the choir.”
