Chris Blain
Conductor, singer & MC (VIC)
Chris Blain is passionate about building sustainable, harmonious communities through music.
Beginning his musical journey as a boy soprano in choir, Chris went on to carve out a career in contemporary a cappella with his man-band Suade. Over sixteen years of performing, recording, producing, and touring, he developed not only as a musician but as a leader within the vocal music scene. During this time, he founded Vocal Australia — a national organisation dedicated to contemporary a cappella — creating festivals, competitions, and educational resources that continue to support singers across the country.
As Operations Manager of MusoMagic, Chris worked in remote Indigenous communities, where he witnessed firsthand the profound social impact of music. This experience reshaped his understanding of music — not as an end in itself, but as a powerful vehicle for connection, confidence, wellbeing, and social cohesion.
He went on to establish Melbourne Singing Events, producing immersive weekend singing getaways and workshops designed to bring people together in joyful, participatory music-making. Chris currently serves as National Choir Program Manager for Creativity Australia’s With One Voice network, conducts the With One Voice Whitehorse choir, and is the musical director of Men In Suits — a musical men’s shed-meets-comedy choir that blends harmony, humour, and heart.
On weekends, he swaps the conductor’s baton for a celebrant’s folder and DJ controller, helping couples craft meaningful wedding ceremonies and unforgettable dance floors.
If there’s ever a spare moment — and his two young daughters are asleep — you’ll find him in his studio writing songs, arranging harmonies, or making gloriously unnecessary noises in the name of creative exploration.
