Fortississimo: Vox Genevae
Youth choir (TAS)
Music is a vital part of life at Geneva Christian College, with the belief that everyone is musical. Everyone has the capacity to make and enjoy music and that reflects our creator God. Singing is at the heart of music-making and we sing whenever we can. So, when a group of cast members from last year’s musical production of Wind in the Willows expressed interest in singing together at lunch time, their Performing Choir was born.
Now affectionately known as Fortississimo; Vox Genevae, Geneva’s Performing Choir currently consists of a group of students from year 9-12. Also included are some members of the home school community, who also love to sing. They rehearse during Friday lunch times, where they have a fun time with warm ups, learning new songs and preparing for performances.
In 2025, after completing a successful season with the Wind in the Willows musical, and being awarded first place in the Devonport Eisteddfod, the choir was invited to perform at several Carols events in and around Devonport. They developed their own arrangements of songs like Carol of the Bells and Hark the Herald, enjoying a mix of traditional and contemporary harmonies and sounds.
The group have a diverse repertoire, ranging from classics like For the beauty of the earth to fun, nonsense songs like Banana Man and more evocative numbers like an arrangement of Shadowlands from the Lion King musical. Every song is an exploration of human life and an opportunity to communicate what really matters to us as humans.
Fortississimo come to the Festival of Voices this year out of a thriving music program at Geneva. Their junior (primary) choir is bursting with energy and enthusiasm. The middle school makes up the bulk of our musical cast each year. The instrumental program supports a string ensemble, a worship band, a suite of individual instrument lessons, and all of this comes out of regular classroom music, which is for all students to year 8 and then optional into year 12. They even have a “brainy beats” program which brings a short, fun rhythm activity to every class each fortnight.
Music is one of the most powerful forms of expression and they feel blessed to be able to share this with you in 2026.
