Voice Weavers
Mixed voice choir (QLD/NSW)
Voice Weavers is an a cappella community choir, established in 2005 and based in Tweed Heads on the Qld/NSW border. They are a mixed community choir of 40+ members. Voice Weavers perform at a variety of events up and down the Tweed and Gold Coasts, as well as putting on one major concert of their own per year.
Their musical director, Christine Madden, joined them in 2017. With a background in music education and choral conducting, Chris took over direction of Voice Weavers in 2021.
Voice Weavers sing in (mostly) four-part harmony, enjoying a wide variety of styles ranging from pop, rock and other contemporary music to classical, gospel, world music, folk and musical theatre. The themes of some of their recent concerts have been:
- Rock Legends 2022
- Round the World 2023. In this concert, they sang in several different languages and were joined by a Samoan Church Choir to sing Lo Ta Nu’u
- Soundtracks and Showstoppers 2025
The choir has travelled to festivals and events every few years and has attended the World Choir Games in multiple countries. In 2024, they could not resist attending the Auckland World Choir Games, just ‘across the ditch’. They chose not to compete, but to enjoy many of the competition choirs. They did participate in an evaluation session with three international judges, and an individual coaching session which provided them with directions to focus on, to improve their cohesion as a choir, including feeling the song in their bodies and expressing that through movement. The coaches encouraged them to dive into the meaning and passion of each of their songs so that they can communicate that to their audience.
Nearly half of their members were able to make the trip to Auckland, and they came home to share fresh inspiration and enthusiasm for music making.
In 2026, they will be making their third trip to Festival of Voices. It has become a favourite with the Voice Weavers members. Most of them have attended one of the workshops on offer. They have previously performed at “Voices@5”, Singers Lounge, Pop-up Concerts around Hobart, and in 2023 joined the Flash Mob at MONA.
