Do we need to apply and go through a selection process?
No. You can simply contact our Youth Choir coordinator, Kerry Bennett, to discuss your festival plans.
Do we need to come for the whole Festival?
No. You are welcome to come for as long or as little as suits your choir. Most youth choirs stay for four to five nights.
How many performances will we do?
That’s up to you! We will work with you to create a schedule of performances and activities to suit your group’s needs, whether you prefer a busy itinerary, a relaxed pace, or somewhere in between.
Are there massed choir events for youth choir participants?
Yes. Your choir can participate in a combined youth choir workshop with other touring ensembles. Many Tasmanian schools and youth choirs also enjoy collaborating with visiting groups in informal, non-performance singing activities during the Festival.
Can my choir view other concerts?
Yes. With over 200 pop-up performances throughout the Festival, your choir will have plenty of opportunities to hear others in action, and we can include this in your schedule.
Where possible, we may also arrange for youth choirs to observe rehearsals or performances of major choral concerts.
Are there warm up spaces or green rooms performance venues?
In some cases. Major concert venues usually include a (sometimes small) warm-up area. Many pop-up locations are public spaces, so we recommend warming up beforehand, or finding a space nearby – like a park or outdoor area.
Is there a piano or keyboard available at performance venues?
In most venues, yes – subject to availability. When confirming your Fesitval attendance, please let Kerry know what equipment you would like us to supply.
Will we have time for some sightseeing?
Absolutely! Let Kerry know if you would like free time included in your schedule to explore beautiful Tasmania. We have arrangements with some tourist attractions that offer reduced or waived entry fees for participating groups.
Will we need to organise transport?
Only in some cases. Many Festival activities are within easy walking distance in central Hobart. Transport is only required if you are planning to explore beyond Hobart CBD or visit regional centres.
