A multi-award winning director and industry leader Shaun Rennie is “honoured” to take the leading role at Tasmania’s much-loved Festival of Voices.

Mr Rennie will bring his vast experience as director of opera, musical theatre and large-scale events into the festival’s key role of Artistic Director, taking over from Isobel Marmion.

The move is one he doesn’t take lightly, saying it was an extraordinary honour.

“The Festival of Voices unites world-class artists and local voices, celebrates the beauty and creativity of the island and reminds us of the power of the human voice to connect us,” Mr Rennie said.

“I’m honoured to help lead the festival alongside its incredible team, into its next chapter as the singing heart of winter in Australia.”

Tim Munro, Festival of Voices chair, said Mr Rennie would bring a wealth of experience to lead the winter-warming event into its next chapter.

“Shaun is a multi-award-winning director and arts leader whose work spans opera, theatre, musical theatre and large-scale live events,” Mr Munro said.

“With a foundation as a performer, his career has evolved into one of Australia’s most dynamic cross-genre directors.

“He is known for his empathy-driven leadership, bold programming and deep belief in the power of song to connect, inspire and uplift audiences.”

Mr Rennie played a key role at Opera Australia during a period of transition as associate director and his leadership experience is backed with being on the Hayes Theatre Co board.

Mr Munro said the festival team was thrilled to have Mr Rennie join them.

“He is deeply committed to the voice as a tool for connection and celebration and is passionate about building cultural experiences that resonate across Australia and beyond.”

Next year’s Festival of Voices will run from July 3-12.

Some ticketed events will go on sale on November 14, and the full program available March 20.
