Delve into the wonderful world of songwriting with your mentor, nationally respected composer and musical storyteller Paul Jarman. In this intimate and creative workshop, you will be encouraged create and share stories and songs with new friends.
This workshop will include an open dialogue of how we write songs. Paul will look at the elements in the songwriters’ toolbox including the nuts and bolts of composing, melodic nuances, finding inspiration and mind set, and integrity in storytelling.
The workshop schedule will include a preliminary meet-and-greet session in the Singers’ Lounge with Paul and your fellow songwriters.
What's included?
The fee will cover Paul’s tuition, festival accreditation and specially negotiated accommodation rates.
Who should register?
Anyone with an interest in the craft of songwriting will find inspiration in this workshop. Participants are encouraged to bring instruments with them to the venue.

Paul is most well known as a lyricist and composer of choral music, a world music multi-instrumentalist, and a facilitator of community- inspired collaborations. Paul has written over 200 commissioned works for ensembles, festivals and events, including Gondwana Voices, Sydney Children’s Choir, Birralee Voices, The Song Company, Boston City Singers, Rafiki Youth Choir, The Australian Boys' Choir, The Hunter sSingers, Department of Education, Woden Valley Youth Choir and many more. His unique blend of melody and timeless poetry celebrates the human endeavour and has captured the imagination of singers and audiences worldwide. He has been commissioned to write music about some of the most inspiring people of our time including Jessica Watson, Terry Fox, Helen Keller, Ernest Shackleton, Aung San Suu Kyi, Pemulwuy and Mary MacKillop among countless others.

General admission – $215
Booking fee
- For bookings with a total value of $15 or less, a booking fee of $3 will be added upon check-out.
- For bookings with a total value between $15.01 and $199.99, a booking fee of $5 will be added upon
check-out. - For bookings with a total value of $200 or more, a booking fee of $10 will be added upon check-out.

Getting to the venue:
- The Long Gallery is on Level 2, 77 Salamanca Pl, Battery Point TAS 7004
- 2 accessible parking spaces are available outside ‘The Den’ on Salamanca Place. More accessible parks are located on Salamanca Place in a sectioned-off parking lot opposite the restaurant strip.
