Voices in the Asylum
With The Australian Voices
This special package experience combines a concert from premiere vocal ensemble, The Australian Voices with a gourmet BBQ buffet of tasty Tasmanian delights. The venue is the equally intimate and curious Asylum at the Port Arthur Historic Site.
Featuring a program of chant-inspired music including Swedish cow-herding songs, ancient plainchant, a hymn by 12th century nun Hildegard von Bingen, a Tibetan folksong, and didgeridoo player William Barton’s love-song to his native Kalkadoon country. And freshly commissioned works by Australian composers Joseph Twist, Alice Chance, Lachlan Skipworth and Gordon Hamilton. Plus guest appearance from local community choir The Peninsula Singers.
