FESTIVAL OF VOICES 2016 WRAPS UP

9AM TUESDAY 18 JULY - The twelfth annual Festival of Voices came to a close this weekend, finishing off with the Unplugged East Coast Tour.

Early ticketing and attendance shows a significant increase on last year’s audience with almost 30,000 people engaging in Festival of Voices events. Ticket sales were up by 8% with over 14,000 tickets sold. 2016 shows were of higher capacity with a total of 21 sold out shows.

This year’s Voicebox was a smashing success with many shows selling out or reaching very close to capacity. Standing only tickets were added to several shows in response to high demand.

The iconic City of Hobart Bonfire and Big Sing once again proved itself worth braving the weather for, with approximately 4500 people attending the free event. Attendance at free events was also up on last year by close to 30%.

Director Tony Bonney says:Festival of Voices has once again proved that it can be an inclusive, diverse and entertaining celebration of the voice for all Tasmanians.

For me the success of 2016’s program has not only been the huge audience responses that we have received to all of our events, but also the number of artists who not only choose to stay in Tasmania for the rest of the Festival, but have already approached us to be in 2017’s program.
