Local Choir Package
Many voices joining together
We understand there are many considerations for a local choir to accommodate in joining the Festival so on the table is a program that offers you a few choices. Local choirs are welcome to join the Performing Choir Package should that model suit but this is what we have specifically designed for you.
Firstly all local choirs are invited to sing in our Pop-up Performances – no cost. There will be performance opportunities both indoor and outdoor.Indoor performances include many leading hotels such as The Grand Chancellor Hotel, Hadley’s Orient Hotel and the Henry Jones Art Hotel. Other indoor spaces may include MONA , Hobart International Airport, the Tasmania Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG), shopping centres and many others.
Outdoor performances include Salamanca Market (Saturdays only), Salamanca Square, Elizabeth Street Mall, Farm Gate Market (Sundays only), Red Decker Bus and many more venues including parks and gardens.
Our preference is for most performances be a cappella, particularly those scheduled for outdoors. There is limited availability of audio equipment for indoor Pop-ups and some venues have a piano. A conductor’s music stand is available on request. Any equipment requirements should be requested on the relevant form.
Workshop – Joining together on Saturday 8 July with renowned composer conductor Chris Burcin, learning songs for a public performance later that evening.
Concert – choirs joining together to perform their best 2 – 3 songs followed by the performance of the combined song to a public audience.
Performance schedules are created in May after every choir’s perferred times are considered.
The Singers’ Lounge is our version of a Festival Club, where choirs gather to sing in a far more informal setting. Commencing at 7.30 pm until late on selected days, this year coordinated and hosted by Paul Jarman. A fixed program of entertainment is followed by a “blackboard” open style sessions. The Singers’ Lounge will operate for 6 nights in the Long Gallery at 77 Salamanca Place. However, on Saturday 15 July the venue will be moved to the City Hall for the first ever “After Party”. Stage, microphones, keyboard, music stand, audio backing tracks and a professional sound operator will be in attendance. Choirs interested in performing in the Singers’ Lounge program should complete the relevant form. Although entrance to the Singers’ Lounge is usually $15 per person at the door, entrance for your choir is free if you are performing in the Singers’ Lounge on the night!
Major Concerts | every night of the Festival there are a host of concerts to choose from. Be sure to make time to see one of our great internationally renowned guest artists.
