Cherubini Requiem In C Minor, With The Australian Voices
In a Festival of Voices first, the major choral concert for 2019 is a double bill choral extravaganza not to be missed! One of the finest pieces of choral music to be written, Cherubini’s Requiem, and one of Australia’s finest vocal ensembles, The Australian Voices – in one concert!
Conductor Graham Abbott, The Festival of Voices Chorus and Hobart Chamber Orchestra takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride of emotion with the music of, as described by Beethoven, “Europe’s foremost dramatic composer”, Luigi Cherubini. His Requiem is a tour de force of musical craftsmanship, which showcases the amazing vocal power of the chorus, and the instrumental prowess of the orchestra.
And if that is not enough! During the first half of this concert the world-renowned Australian Voices, conducted by Gordon Hamilton, will whet your choral appetite by performing a truly inspired program of fantastic and fascinating music by contemporary composers from across the globe, including music composed by Gordon Hamilton in Antarctica.
Patrons are invited to attend a pre-concert talk which will be presented by Graham Abbott and Gordon Hamilton. Graham will guide you through the very beautiful Cherubini Requiem and Gordon will provide some interesting background information about the works The Australian Voices will perform in the first half of the concert.
Patrons are encourage to sit in the front section of the downstairs area of the Hall from 6.20pm onwards and at the conclusion of the talk at 7pm take up their allocated seats.
