Hymn Sing Returns!

This year, due to popular demand, Festival of Voices will present two opportunities to sing your favourite hymns together at Hobart’s Town Hall.

We invite you to sing many of your favourite rousing and inspiring hymns, accompanied by the iconic Town Hall organ. In 2019 we filled the historical venue with sounds from across the centuries and in 2021, we’ll do it again, twice!

This nostalgic experience looks back at at well known ‘traditional’ hymns that are sure to lift spirits. With lots of verses, if you aren’t familiar with the tune you definitely will by the second verse! This event will bring back many fond memories of singing, whether in church or school. Feel free to sing harmonies and descants, or make up some of your own!

Hymn Sing will once again be led by Joan Wright OAM; Festival Choral Producer, Curator and Presenter. Joan has dedicated her life to the education and development of choirs and choral singing in Tasmania. She is a beloved member of the festival team whose energy, knowledge and dedication is unsurpassed. She had lots of fun leading the Hymn Sing audience in 2019 and will return to dust off her teaching skills, accompanied by Anne Morgan and Myfanwy McIndoe.
Myfanwy McIndoe recently moved to Hobart from Victoria to take up the position of Joint Director of Music at St Mary’s Cathedral. Miffy has years of experience as a church musician including working for the Convent of the Salesian Sisters in Vienna (2017) and The Catholic Parish of Mentone/Parkdale East in Melbourne (2017-2021). She holds a Master of Music in Organ Performance from the Conservatorium of Music in Würzburg,  Germany, a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music in Harpsichord Performance and is specialised in Gregorian Chant.
